Dave Joerger Realizes NBA Dream

BISMARCK N.D., June 22, 2007 – The NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies announced today that Dakota Wizards head coach Dave Joerger is joining the organization as an assistant coach.

"It's with great pride and anticipation that we are announcing the hiring of three exceptional assistant coaches,” said Grizzlies head coach Marc Iavaroni, who, in addition to Joerger, announced the hiring of Johnny Davis and Gordon Chiesa as assistant coaches. "They bring a diversely successful set of experience, skills and teamwork that will form the backbone of our efforts to bring out the best in our players throughout the season and playoffs."

After spending the better part of 10 years with the Wizards franchise, Joerger will leave the Wizards as the winningest coach in franchise history (232 – 117) along with four championship trophies (2000-01 IBA, 2001-02 CBA, 2003-04 CBA and 2006-07 NBA Development League) and two Coach of the Year honors (2001-02 & 2003-04). Joerger also spent two seasons as the head coach of the Sioux Falls Skyforce, winning yet another CBA Championship during the 2004-05 season.

“I have been so blessed to live and work in such a wonderful community”, said Joerger just after his announcement. “My family are very excited to embark on a new journey, something we have dreamt of for a long time and we are going to do our best to make everyone in Bismarck proud.”

“This is the opportunity Dave has been waiting for,” said Wizards general manager Tom Wagganer. “He has meant so much to this organization over the years, we couldn’t be happier for him. He is finally getting his chance.”

The Wizards will now begin a search process to find a replacement for Joerger. A search committee of local supporters will focus on finding the right candidate that best represents the Wizards values: Community, Development and Winning. There is no timeline for a replacement.
