ATLANTA, Oct. 14 (Ticker) -- With the defending champions resting
several key performers, the Atlanta Hawks took advantage.
Joe Johnson scored 22 points and Zaza Pachulia added 18 as the
Hawks pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 91-81 preseason
triumph over the Miami Heat.
Antoine Walker had 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Heat, who
played without guards Dwyane Wade and Gary Payton and center
Alonzo Mourning.
Trailing, 74-73, after a layup by Wayne Simien with 8:08
remaining, the Hawks broke open the game with a 13-0 run for an
86-74 edge with just 4 1/2 minutes remaining. Marvin Williams
started the rally with a three-point play, Josh Childress scored
five points during the burst and rookie Shelden Williams capped
the run with a 14-foot jumper.
Johnson, who scored three points during the decisive run, then
drained a 3-pointer after Miami had scored five straight to cut
the edge to seven.
A first-round pick from Duke, Shelden Williams was just 1-of-8
from the floor with two rebounds in 28 minutes.
Shaquille O'Neal had nine points, three rebounds and four
assists in 16 minutes and Udonis Haslem added 16 points for
Miami.
