Honeybees Spotlight: Brianna
By: Hornets.com | August 4, 2011

Hometown: Dallas, Texas.
Year as a Honeybee: Third.

Previous dance experience:

When I was younger, I was determined to play every sport imaginable. My younger sister, the ballerina, actually inspired me to take a dance class when I was 10. I was hooked and kept taking more and more classes until I had danced my way up to the competition team. In addition to being a varsity cheerleader, I was in the school dance company for four years in high school. When I came to college, I joined Tulane’s dance team, and before I knew it, I was coaching! Being a dance major, I would spend hours in classes and rehearsals at Tulane for their Newcomb Dance Company. And of course, I dance as a Honeybee!

What I love about being a Honeybee:

I absolutely love being involved in the New Orleans community. Just knowing that I can help brighten somebody’s day in the simplest way makes the job very rewarding. The Hornets staff and my teammates are great people to work with! But it’s really the FANS at each game that make performances so much fun! Just stepping out onto the court each game while the crowd is cheering for you is exhilarating – definitely a feeling that I will never forget.

What I love about dancing:

Dance is far beyond just entertainment; it is a chance to express yourself, to release energy, and to have the time of your life. I don’t think I’ve met anybody who didn’t enjoy dancing – whether it’s on a court, at the club, or alone at home in front of the mirror. It just makes you feel good! And knowing that other people are entertained and appreciate the art form that I absolutely love just makes it that much better.

What I love about New Orleans:

I don’t even know where to begin! Ever since I moved here four years ago, I have fallen more and more in love with this city. The people and culture here are like none other in the world – everything has so much character! The food is to die for and the music is infused with history. There is always a reason to celebrate! New Orleans is not just a city. It is an experience.

What I love to do when I’m not performing with the Honeybees:

I absolutely adore taking care of my Great Dane puppy, Shiloh. I also spend a lot of time choreographing and teaching dance. I love going out to dinner (yum) and spending time with my friends. I try to travel whenever I can and experience as many new things as possible!
