Nuggets share time in the community during holiday season

On the court, the Nuggets are encouraged to share the basketball.

Off the court, they do their best to share a little bit of themselves.

During recent breaks in the busy NBA schedule, Nuggets players and coaches have taken time to give back to the Denver community this holiday season.

Here are some photos that capture the special connection that the Nuggets make with their fans.

Nuggets point guard Chauncey Billups and his wife Piper welcomed 42 low-income families to the Pepsi Center for a holiday party on Dec. 20. The families were from Warren Village, which provides housing and education to help single-parent households become self-sufficient.

Nuggets forward Chris Andersen dressed up as Santa Birdman and met with nearly 500 children at the J.W. Marriott on Dec. 19. Proceeds from the event benefitted Alliance for Choice in Education (ACE), which provides scholarship money for low-income families who can’t afford private schools.

Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony treated 200 Denver-area schoolchildren to a screening of “Yogi Bear” as part of his annual “A Very Melo Christmas” on Dec. 15. Anthony has been active in the community since his arrival in Denver in 2003.

Nuggets coach George Karl and forwards Nene and Gary Forbes visited patients at the Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center on Dec. 2. Karl and Nene are cancer survivors.
